Meet Me

Welcome to my little blog! I have  been interested in writing and journalism since I was a kid. As I got older, these interests seemed to get farther and farther away from me. I chose teaching over journalism as my profession. Recently I have discovered the world of blogging and am very excited to find a place to communicate my ideas, stories and life in written form.

I am a twenty-something, blond and freckled teacher, friend, fiancee and cat mom from Ontario. Along with writing and reading blogs my interests include running, kayaking, reading in general, DIY and working with children. I live in a small two bedroom apartment with my fiancee and two cat’s and am on a journey to better myself in many areas. Part of the reason I started this blog was to share my adventures in improving my running abilities, getting healthy and slimming down for my coming wedding and beyond. Below I have broken down pieces of my life to share.

Getting to Where I am Now

I graduated from teacher`s college a little over a year ago but it seems like yesterday. During that crazy year I was travelling back and forth two hours from home every other month for class and placement. Josh was living on his own in a basement apartment right in the middle. We saw each other on weekends but were constantly being torn in different directions and missing family and friends no matter where we were. When I graduated I had no idea when I might be getting a teaching position. I moved in with Josh and took a position at a Provincial Park. I put my foot down and we moved out of the basement and into a very nice two bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood and close to Josh’s job.

We lived an hour a way from our families and friends in Belleville for about a year. Things were good there but it wasn’t where we wanted to settle down. I also was unable to get a teaching job in Belleville and was working part time as an educational assistant and tutoring on the side.

This spring I got offered a job in Peterborough, back home. Within a week of Josh’s proposal I was packing up my things, moving back in with my parents and leaving Josh with the cats in our apartment. Since then we have moved into our new apartment, bought two cars and both have new jobs. We do things in world winds.

The Man

Josh and I met when we were teenagers through mutual friends. At first that is all we had in common. We hung out with the same people but were never really friends. Our last year of high school we got closer and started dating. He was my prom date!! (Awe) We have been together ever since. When we first started dating our friends thought we didn’t have enough in common and wouldn’t go the distance. Fortunately for me, Josh and I have grown into many new common interests and now love to do things together. We are best friends and he defiantly treats me like a princess.

The Cats

Josh and I have two wonderful fur babies (cats). Josh was never much of a cat person when I met him. Actually he didn’t like cats and was more into dogs. I have had cats since I was a kid and although I would like a dog one day, I am really a cat person.

Finnick was a gift for Josh’s birthday. He was living on his own in Belleville in a terrible basement apartment with very few friends in the area. I was living in another town and our friends were far away. He was lonely. I started to mention the idea of getting a cat, at first we wasn’t too interested in the idea, but eventually I broke him. We spent a Saturday visiting the Humane Society and Josh picked out a very small grey and which kitten. Finnick and Josh have turned out to be best buds and he was a wonderful companion when he lived on his own.

About a year later I was feeling that Finnick was a bit lonely. Josh and I were travelling back and forth between different towns and away a lot of weekends. We also worked a lot and he was home alone for long periods of time. I wanted another cat but we also agreed that we would be moving again and quite possibly to another province or even country. Even though I thought we had put the second cat issue to bed, I came home one day to find a note from Josh and  cat carrier. Marley was a surprise and at first I wasn’t sure if he was a good idea. Now I can’t imagine our family without him. He is a character for sure and definitely bring humor and often crazy messes to our world.

  2. I have so much admiration for teachers! I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, although I’m not sure I’ll be pursuing that as a career path for myself. I didn’t go to Queen’s, but lots of my friends did. Looking forward to reading your posts!

  3. Aww, I loved reading about how you met your fiance! :] That’s awesome that you two have been together since high school! I adore cats as well! (I started out as a dog person, but smuggled home a stray kitten I found at a homeless shelter I was volunteering at and now, I just can’t imagine life without one! ❤ )
